THE GAP UNFILLED, HE MAKES THE KILL, THREE NIL

Nil Satis Nisi Optimum forge a 3 point gap at the top of the table after this weekend’s games, thanks to another win. This time good Fortune smiled on them, with Jonathan Fortune bagging a brace in their 2-1 win at Mega Bucks, to leave Paul’s squad as the only team with a 100% record this season. The previous other 100%ers both lost this weekend, Elland Road 2-1 at the hands of Short Straw, and Kylie Bumcheeks 2-1 to Boston Rock, a late Shearer goal proving too little too late.

So my POTW decision was pretty hard this week, as both my own team and Short Straw beat teams with previous 100% records and propelled themselves into early contention in he process. However, I decided that my dealing with certain managers’ fevered egos and short-sighted self-interest was sufficient reward in itself, so I’ve given the hundred grand to Short Straw. Well done Andrew.

Elsewhere the first hat-trick of the season wasn’t enough for Aardvark to beat the Groovers in the Rosebery Bowl derby; York’s Returning Glory get off the mark with an impressive 2-1 win at the mighty Claymore; and Viola’s and Prettier Than You both lost to leave themselves still pointless. It’s early days yet, though.

“HAVE AN AWAYDAY, A CHEAP HOLIDAY, DO IT TODAY”

A bizarre story from our Antipodean correspondent. I don’t know where he gets them!
"VEGARD HEGGEM took part in one of Norway's biggest fantasy football competitions - and won a trip to England to see Liverpool play! The Anfield star now plans to donate the prize to cancer victims so they can enjoy a Premiership match.
Heggem entered the competition in Dagbladet - Norway's second biggest newspaper. It involves picking teams of Premiership players. He said: "I didn't spend ages on this fun fantasy game. It was only about an hour a week. Obviously my prize was no use to me, so I have decided to give it away."
Heggem is also entering the competition this year. He quipped: "One player I won't be picking in my team is myself. My price has gone down over the last couple of years so I wouldn't score many points."

THE FF£100,000 QUESTION

Which famous footballing siblings grew up in Beatrice Terrace?

This is one of mine, so one guess per person to me by close of play on Saturday 14 September 2002.

The first ever goalscorer in the NSL (National Soccer League) of Australia, was John Kosmina, playing for Adelaide Sharks v Canberra on 2/4/1977. The final score was 3-1 to Adelaide, and John went onto sign for Arsenal, with a glamorous career of 1 app off the bench & 1 full appearance in Europe in the 78/79 season for the mighty Arse.

No-one got it, unsurprisingly, although both MC and I incorrectly guessed Craig Johnston. So there’s another rollover! £300,000 up for grabs this week.

By the way, the Niall Quinn Aussie Rules story, held over from last week, is this; back around 1980, Quinny played for a Gaelic Football team in Dublin, who were invited to Australia to train with the newly formed Sydney Swans. It was here that Niall & one of his good friends Jim Stynes were asked if they were interested in a career in Aussie Rules, obviously Niall said no, but Stynes did. This story came to prominence in Australia just before Niall had his testimonial & one the papers here did a piece on him & interviewed Stynes as well, hence Dean picking up on it. Dean adds that Niall would make a great ruckman, whatever that is!
