LONDON CALLING TO THE FARAWAY TOWNS
Well, for once I’m happy to eat my words. After my scathing attack on the quality of the Premiership in the last newsletter, this weekend’s “Sky Super Sunday” for once lived up to it’s name, delivering a couple of crackers from the Capital, full of quality football, drama, incident and controversy. “Let battle come down”, indeed, and the results of these games really shook up the top of the WSFFL League table.
For a start, the previous leaders, You Know Your Boston Rock FC, were bounced back to 4th place, one point off the pace, as they could only draw 1-1 with a persistent Thommo’s Titans, Darren Bent’s early goal being cancelled out by a Leigertwood equaliser. Last week’s 2nd place team fared worse, however; Final Fantasy XI came unstuck against Fred West, losing 1-0 to the Landscape Gardeners thanks to a towering Vidic header. For that result, Fred won the POTW half a million. Well done Fred; hope this made up for finally getting knocked out of the PCMT this weekend (Aardvark won the 2nd replay 3-1 and face sister in law Ceri’s FFXI in the semis).
This means Aardvark Abacus top the table, after a 3-0 win over York’s Returning Glory thanks to a Dirk Kuyt brace. However, their lead is goal difference only from 2 teams. Prettier Than You soar up to 2nd and top girlie, with Ashley Young bagging the winner in Rachel’s 1-0 win over Nil Satis. The 22 Legged Groove Machine are also level on points in 3rd, their opponents Claymore Athletic unwittingly aiding the Groovers with a Jonathan Woodgate own goal in Rich’s 3-0 win over Clive.
At the bottom, Eleven Imaginary Boys continue to struggle; their 2-1 loss against San Dimas, despite a sparkling Aaron Lennon goal, keeps them one point behind the similarly defeated Yorks. Real Muppets however continue their recent upwards trajectory, leaping to 11th after beating the Dead Parrots 2-1 with Neville and Ronaldo goals, and dumping their opponents to 14th in the process. And Trusted show a bit more of their potential, moving up to 13th with a 3-1 win over Mega Bucks.
YOU’RE SO BORING BORING BORING, I’VE HEARD ALL THIS BEFORE
Not much feedback, but I got general agreement to my rant last week about the state of the Premiership. Ceri says “Dave & I agree with you about how dull the Premiership is this year. It's a bit of an effort to watch the Sunday 4pm game”. Peej comments “The Premiership wasn't much cop last year, it's continuing in the same vein”. Of course, this was before the Super Sunday excitement of this week. Now can we have more of the same, please??!!
TRANSFER NEWS
There are some advantages to being married to the co-ordinator after all! After Fulham midfielder Claus Jensen banged in his second goal of the season against Everton yesterday, I mused out loud to Rachel that I was surprised he was still in the pool. Two seconds later, he wasn’t…
Player From To Fee
Michael Gray (D) Pool Cooling Down (sole bid) Claymore Athletic £500K

Don’t forget that the players highlighted are now subject to the pool “cooling off” period, Any managers interested in buying them can bid until close of play Saturday 11 November 2006, after which time they go into the pool proper and are readily available. All bids to me please.
THE FF£100,000 QUESTION
Angolan striker Amado Flavio scored the only goal of his country’s World Cup campaign, and was rewarded by being given what?
Answers to me by close of play Saturday 11 November 2006. As usual, first correct one out of the metaphorical hat gets the dosh.
As for last weeks question, I have since been informed that Henrik Larsson was in fact the 6th player to score in World Cup Finals 12 years apart, not the 5th. The other four I was looking for were Pele, Diego Maradona, Uwe Seeler and Michael Laudrup. However Clive and Ryan pointed out (and I checked) that Saudi Arabia’s Sami Al Jaber achieved this feat earlier in the 2006 Finals, having scored in 1994 as well as Larsson.
So, I took any 4 from these 5 as correct replies, and therefore got correct replies from Clive and Ryan (of course). Real Muppets won the coin toss, so the hundred grand goes to Ryan. Well done Ryan, and hard luck Clive. Pair of right cleverclogses…!
One wrong guess from Dave, who didn’t look it up on the web and thus went for Pele, Matthaus, Walter and Beckanbauer. I was tempted to give the cash to MC for trying a guess with his brain rather than his mouse!
