GLORY DAYS
The 2006/07 WSFFL FA Cup Final will be contested on Easter Monday, 9 April 2007, between York’s Returning Glory and Real Muppets. This unlikely clash was produced as a result of a couple of extraordinary games this weekend. Yorks fairly steamrollered their opponents Mega Buck Bandits, 3-0 with El Karkouri, Thatcher and Speed on target for Julian, whilst the Muppets withstood a frantic fightback from holders You Know Your Boston Rock FC to hang on to a 3-2 win. Goals from Ronaldo, Fernandes and Viduka had put Ryan 3-0 up, only for substitute Bent and Jenas to put the wind up Ryan at the end.
So congratulations to both Ryan and Julian, and here’s a little factette for you; this will therefore be the first time in 10 years that the FA Cup will be won by someone other than Boston Rock, San Dimas, Aardvark and Trusted. In the last 9 years, Boston Rock has won it 3 times and the other 3 teams twice each. So it’ll be nice to get Don Rogers to inscribe someone elses’ name on the trophy!
SHAKEY SHAKE, SHAKE IT…. LEVITATE ME
Well, another WSFFL fixture week, another crazy set of results, another shake up of the table, and only 8 points still separating top and 9th place. I rather hope it’s going to be like this right up until the end of the season!
Well, previous leaders Aardvark Abacus were toppled from their lofty perch by their weekend opponents Prettier Than You; a last minute Khizanishvili winner taking Rachel from 5th to top once again in their 3-2 win. Rachel also had a penalty save “goal” from debutant goalie John Filan to thank for her win. Aardvark dropped to third, as up to second went Trusted By Millions, following a routine 3-0 dispatching of the slumping 22 Legged Groove Machine. Carragher, Gerrard and Ambrose were on target for Beef. Real Muppets, second last week and buoyed by their Cup win, had a chance to go top, but this was snatched from them by a last minute Aaron Lennon winner for Eleven Imaginary Boys. This gave Prov a startling 4-3 win, which also included a late Shabani Nonda double, and the POTW half a million award. Well done Prov-lad!
Nil Satis, 3rd last week, were also denied by a shock result – Gary Speed’s penalty gave bottom club York’s Returning Glory a 1-0 win over Paul. This almost got POTW, but Julian’s been winning too many of them these days! Nil Satis therefore slip to 6th place.
Also dropping, from 4th to 5th, are Fred West LGXI, who salvaged a late 3-3 draw with unlucky Boston Rock FC following a Didier Drogba double strike. New Boston Rock defender Chris Samba was also on target in this one, which lifted the Champions to 9th place. San Dimas are also upwardly mobile – up to 7th and in the chasing pack, after a Theo Walcott goal secured a 2-1 win over the Dead Parrots.
There were also weekend wins for Claymore – Leon Osman grabbing the only goal in their game against Mega Bucks; and Final Fantasy XI, Aaron Mokoena getting a winner in their 2-1 win over Thommo’s Titans. These results keep Clive and Ceri 11th and 13th respectively, but just draw the table ever closer…!

THE FF£100,000 QUESTION
Here’s the final quiz question of 3 from Clive. It’s back to my stuff next week!
What half-baked idea did the FA come up with, in 1935-36, to ruin the Football Pools, which they did not approve of?
Answers to Clive by close of play Saturday 3 March 2007. First correct one out of the metaphorical hat gets the dosh (Clive, again please let me know Sunday 18th who the lucky winner is, and who the other correct and incorrect guesses were from). If no–one gets it right, of course, Clive’s £100,000 richer. So have a go!
THE FF£100,000 QUESTION (continued)
Here’s last week’s answer from Clive;
“What was the relationship between the Secretary of the FA, who came up with the idea of the FA Cup, in 1871, and the very first winning captain?” Answer: Charles Alcock was both the Secretary and the Captain in question.
Two correct answers were received from our resident clever clogs’, Peej and Ryan. San Dimas won the £100,000 coin toss this time so congrats to Peej. No wrong ‘uns - surprised I didn't get a few guesses on this one!”
SHORTS
· February 2007 Manager of the Month already? Well, yes, and this time it was a tricky decision, as 4 teams had exactly the same 2 wins, one draw record in this short month. So I was left with a difficult decision to make, and I decided to give it to Jared Prothero of Eleven Imaginary Boys, who turned over the Champions and put a stop to the Muppets’ league charge this month. Well done Prov – you’re £250,000 richer as well as POTW this week!
· No full teams reported in last week – but that didn’t stop Fred giving me an early team change, putting Freddie Ljungberg in to his team ‘cos Arsenal were playing in the early FA Cup kick-off. Shame he didn’t notice only 9 other Prem teams were playing that same weekend!
· Julian really got Cup fever this weekend – I got this e-mail from him before his Semi-Final against Mega Bucks; “no doubt you are aware this weekend is the biggest so far in YRG history, the competition is high and the squad have all been out to buy new suits at Matalan !!!” Well, congratulations to you Julian, as you can now use those suits again!
