2004/2005 - Newsletter 24 (3 April 2005)

WE’VE GOT A BIGGER PROBLEM NOW

You Know Your Boston Rock’s second half of the season is as crappy as the first half was dominant. Another defeat, this time at the hands of York’s Returning Glory, leaves “the Sky Heroes” having gained only 6 points from their last 7 games. Late goals from Luis Boa Morte and Zoltan Gera gave Julian’s team the win and, predictably, the POTW £100,000, so well done Julian. Grrrr…

Boston Rock’s lead at the top is now down to 6 points, and their problems have doubled, as they now have two pursuers to worry about. In the Cup Final rehearsal, a Thierry Henry hat-trick (his second in consecutive appearances) put paid to San Dimas’ resistance and pulled Clive’s Claymore Athletic FC level on points with Aardvark Abacus, who could only manage to draw 1-1 with Thommo’s Titans. It’s now 6 wins out of 6 for Clive – with the stuttering form that Boston Rock and Aardvark are in, the double is definitely on…

A double of his own from Gareth Barry, plus Andy Cole and Juan Pablo Angel goals, gave Trusted By Millions a 4-0 win over Real Muppets to consolidate their 6th place behind San Dimas. In-form Trusted will have a major say in the destination of the title, as their next 2 games are against Aardvark and Boston Rock!

At the bottom, there were no positional changes, as the bottom 3 all lost. Nil Satis went down to a Shaun Bartlett goal to Final Fantasy; Kylie Bumcheeks lost 3-0 to the Groove Machine, for whom Jamie Ashdown was “on target” with a penalty save; and Freddy Ljungberg was amongst the scorers in Fred West’s 3-1 win over Prettier Than You. Mega Buck Bandits drew 1-1 with the Dead Parrots to inch clear of these 3.

TRANSFER NEWS

None!

THE FF£100,000 QUESTION

At half time in the Bolton-Norwich Premiership game on 19 March, who had to change their kit and why?

Answers to me by close of play Saturday 9 April 2005. First correct answer out of the metaphorical hat wins the dosh.

THE FF£100,000 QUESTION (continued)

Northants FA referee Andy Wain recently “verbally abused” a player, whilst officiating a local match. What happened next? Well, he sent himself off, of course! As it was a local game, there was no 4th official to take over, so the game had to be abandoned. He was subsequently fined £50 and banned 35 days for his trouble! Who’d be a ref?

Clive received 2 correct answers, from myself and Peej. The “proverbial” coin toss was won by YKY Boston Rock FC, so another Clive quiz question ends with me getting £100,000. I suspect that’s the only favour Clive’s going to be doing me over the next few weeks…

SHORTS

·      More haste, less speed Dept.; a couple of errors to note in last week’s newsletter. Firstly a clean sheet each was cancelled off the Boston Rock-Aardvark game (my Rio, his Lauren) and not credited; and secondly in the transfers section, Richard Chaplow (to pool) and Stephen Davis (to Boston Rock) were both incorrectly identified as goalies. They are, of course, both midfielders.
