2002/2003 - Newsletter 21 (14 April 2003)

WE’LL STUMBLE THROUGH THE ABC

A good weekend for Aardvark Abacus, this; both their championship rivals stumble with the finishing line in sight, whilst they notch 5 past Prettier Than You thanks mainly to a Paul Scholes hat-trick. Leaders Kylie Bumcheeks lost for the first time in the league this season to a team other than YKY Boston Rock FC, going down 2-0 to the bang in-form Real Muppets, Mark Viduka scoring Muppets 2 and earning Ryan his second POTW £100,000 in consecutive weeks. Well done Ryan. Boston Rock themselves lost tamely to Fred West by the same scoreline, and now look outsiders for the title.

Fourth placed Trusted surprisingly lost 3-1 to the Groove Machine (who would’ve got POTW in any other week) and are coming under pressure for their position from the rampant Muppets. Mega Buck Bandits rocket up to 6th in the tight mid-table, thanks to a 4-1 win over out-of-sorts Claymore, who slump to 8th as a result.

BTW – Look out next weekend for our own Arsenal vs Man United equivalent, as Aardvark Abacus take on Kylie Bumcheeks in the league. Can the Champions cut Kylie’s lead to 1 point? All will be revealed in the next Newsletter!

THE FF£100,000 QUESTION

This is a fun one, and worth a guess.

Norwegian forward Kenneth Kristensen left Norwegian Third division team Vindbjart for divisional rivals from the fishing village of Flekker, for a transfer fee consisting of his weight in what?

One guess per person to me by close of play on Saturday 19 April 2003.

Stuart Pearce was mystified by his fellow Hammers’ musical tastes. No surprise, really, as he’s an renowned old punk rocker at heart, and the Big Man and I (also a pair of old punk rockers) actually saw him at a Stiff Little Fingers gig a couple of years ago, getting ready to pogo to Jake and the lads.

Only one guess, from Ryan, and it was bang-on. The rollover £200,000 therefore goes to Real Muppets, who are having a pretty good week, all things considered.

SHORTS

·      One recat: York’s Returning Glory’s Luis Dead Snake, sorry, Boa Morte, is back in midfield…
