I’M READY, READY FOR THE GRIDLOCK
With 12 games to go, there are still only 8 points separating the top 10 in the league as another set of results gridlocked the top of the league table once again. It’s like a marathon, with everybody jockeying for position, ready for the big sprint finish towards the line, but no-one breaking for the border as yet…
So, Prettier Than You still top the table despite losing this weekend; goals from the recalled Phil Bardsley and new signing Stephen Hunt gave the 22 Legged Groove Machine a valuable 2-0 win and the POTW half a million. Well done Big Man! Rich moves up to 5th, just 2 points off top slot.
So, Aardvark Abacus had an opportunity to go top, but again spurned the chance, drawing 2-2 with in-form Trusted By Millions. They’re also 2 points off the pace, but slip to 4th as a consequence of wins for both Real Muppets and Nil Satis. The Muppets trounced the slumping Champions You Know Your Boston Rock FC, dumping them down to 10th with a 5-1 win to go 2nd. A double from Mark Viduka (surely my “bogey” player – he scored 4 against me in one game previously!) helped Ryan go “nap” on my sorry ass – with one point in my last 21, I’m expecting a vote of confidence from the board any time now… Nil Satis also scored a fine win, 3-0 over San Dimas, with Mikel Arteta bagging a brace to put Paul up to 3rd place.
So, Trusted slip to 6th after their draw, and Fred stays 7th following a 1-1 draw with Eleven Imaginary Boys, Moritz Volz equalising an earlier header from Prov’s “Abominable Snowman”, Abel Xavier. San Dimas stay 8th following their loss, and Mega Buck Bandits climb to 9th, following a fine 4-0 win over York’s Returning Glory, Julian contributing to his own downfall with Gary Speed scoring an own goal.
In the lower reaches, Thommo’s Titans climb to 12th place after a crucial 2-1 win over fellow strugglers the Dead Parrots, Van Persie getting a late winner for Pete’s team over Dean, who stays 15th. And Claymore grabbed a good win against Final Fantasy XI by 4-3, Thierry Henry grabbing an even later winner in that game, to move up to 11th and dump Ceri down to 14th.
And the final FA Cup first round game was finally settled; Trusted By Millions scored a 3-0 win over San Dimas High School at the third time of asking. Goals from the in-form James Milner, Gary Cahill and Jamie Carragher put Beef through to a Quarter Final clash with equally in-form Real Muppets. That should be a tasty tie…
TRANSFER NEWS
Ady takes the cash and runs on another inter-Premiership transfer. I dunno, perhaps I should change this from the “Ryan Rule” to the “Ady Rule”, given that he’s been the sole beneficiary so far…

THE FF£100,000 QUESTION
A guest question from the Big Man this weekend;
At the start of the first ever Premiership season (1992/93), how many overseas players were plying their trade in the Premiership?
Answers to Rich by close of play Saturday 27 January 2007. Reason for the two-tier timing is that Rich is off work on Friday and doesn’t yet have internet hooked up at home.
First correct one out of the metaphorical hat gets the dosh (Rich, please let me know Sunday 28th who the lucky winner is and who the other correct and incorrect guesses were from). If no–one gets it right, of course, The Big Man trousers the wonga himself…
Liverpool’s Peter Crouch was pulled off the most last season; of 28 starts, he was subbed 20 times. Can’t buy a start this season. Funny how things turn around.
Correct replies were received from Peej and Ceri. Final Fantasy XI won the coin toss, so Ceri gets the cash. Well done!
Wrong ‘uns from Ryan (Paul Dickov) and Clive (Jermain Defoe). Both logical, though…
SHORTS
· Got the clean sheet count wrong in last weekends Cup replay between San Dimas and Trusted. Should’ve been 3, not 1…
· This from Clive regarding the Quarter Final draw for the Cup; “With regards the FA Cup. I think it is a superb draw. 6 of the 9 remaining teams have never won the FA Cup. In fact, 4 of them have never won a thing! It would be nice (now that I have been knocked out) for a brand new name to be inscribed on the trophy.” Although I’m still in it, and the holder, I have to echo his sentiments. Doesn’t mean I’m not going to try like mad to retain it, though…
