2002/2003 - Newsletter 15 (9 February 2003)

WHY CAN’T YOU GET IT THROUGH THAT THERE’S NO CHANGE

That’s right – no change at the top of the Fantasy League Table, as all 3 top teams win again. Kylie and Boston Rock both achieved wins over lowly opposition, but the win came hard for Aardvark Abacus, who beat resurgent Claymore Athletic in a 4-3 thriller, with substitute Hasselbaink coming off the bench to score the winner. This earned Aardvark the POTW £100,000, so well done Ady.

Elsewhere, Trusted move up to 5th after a 3-0 win over Nil Satis, and Mega Bucks move above Prettier Than You with a 3-2 win over Rachel’s team. The Muppets continue their good recent form with a 1-0 win over struggling Short Straw, and the Groove Machine may have arrested their recent slide – they won 3-2 over York’s Returning Glory.

And, oddly enough, there were no clean sheets cancelled off this week! Weird!

Also, the draw for the WSFFL FA Cup Semi Finals was made and is as follows;

Fred West Landscape Gardening XI    v       Aardvark Abacus
Claymore Athletic FC                            v       Trusted By Millions

These games will be played on W/E 1 March 2003, doubled up with the League fixtures.

THE FF£100,000 QUESTION

Nice easy one for y’all this week…

Which lower division club did Newcastle and Columbia legend Faustino Asprilla nearly join earlier this season?

One guess per person to me by close of play on Saturday 15 February 2003.

The player who’d allegedly made a “throat-cutting” gesture to one of his own fans was Manchester City’s Eyal Berkovic, who’d apparently done it in response to said fan barracking him throughout the Worthington Cup game with Crewe on 1 October. City won the game 3-2, with Berkovic getting on the scoresheet as well. Where’s the problem?

Correct guesses from Peej, Dean and Ady, and the £100,000 goes to San Dimas High School. Well done Peej, commiserations to the other boys.

·      Whoops – I put the wrong date in the results page for week 20 in the last newsletter. Of course you lot all knew it was W/E 1 February 2003, and not 25 January 2003…
·      Recats; Claymore Athletic’s Steve Watson is now a midfielder…
