OH LITTLE BROTHER, WE ARE IN A MESS
Aardvark Abacus top the WSFFL table with 2 points worth of daylight between themselves and their pursuers, thanks to a 4-0 derby day win in the “Battle of the Bevans”. Ady comprehensively turned over his brother 4-0, leaving Mega Buck’s defence in a mess with goals from Hasselbaink, Keane, Riise and a header from Laurent Blanc. The previous leaders, San Dimas, lose ground thanks to a 3-1 defeat by Fred west Landscape Gardening XI, Fred remembering to change his team back from his makeshift line-up of last week, and seeing recalled stars Van Nistelrooy and Beckham net for him in a 3-1 win, which also earned Fred the Performance of the Week £100,000. Well done, His Nibs.
Aardvark Abacus now head the table from champions Trusted By Millions, who continued their unbeaten start with an eventful 4-3 win over Short Straw, both teams registering own goals in that game, with Short Straw’s Mark Venus putting through his own net for what proved to be the winner for Trusted. In the other big derby game, Claymore Athletic beat unlucky Nil Satis Nisi Optimum 3-2 in the “Battle of the Blues” to stay 4th, Thierry Henry’s brace and a Kevin Campbell goal being enough to sink the Good Ship Saleh. Despite losing, Paul’s team move off the bottom as resurgent Boston Rock spanked Viola’s Pier 4-1, including a double salvo from defender Jody Craddock, which meant Steve’s bluenoses now assume the basement position on goal difference.
Elsewhere, Prettier Than You’s Barry Hayles scored to secure a good 1-0 win over the Groove Machine, Rachel getting the hang of this game now in her sophomore season. Yorks and the Big Boys fought out a tough 1-1 draw, with Julian’s expensive Summer signing Tomasz Radzinski off the mark at last. And Kylie Bumcheeks boss Rich Smith must rue leaving out striker James Beattie, who banged in a couple for his reserves whilst Shearer and Ravanelli were firing blanks (huh huh, he said “firing blanks”, huh huh) in their 2-0 defeat by the Muppets.
WEDNESDAY WEEK, SHE LOVED ME
The WSFFL now takes a well-earned break thanks to this weekend’s international fixtures (and there’s only one thing to say about that – COME ON ENGLAND!). However, just a reminder; the next Fantasy fixtures will be the First Round of the Paul Cartmell Memorial Trophy, which will be played during the week commencing Monday 8 October,. Yup, they’re midweek fixtures, so make sure you get your teams in to me by the appropriate times. The next full League fixture list is the weekend of 13 October, so don’t forget!

THE FF£75,000 QUESTION
What is Arsenal, Aardvark Abacus and England defender Sol Campbell’s real first name?
One entry per person as usual please, to me by close of play on Saturday 13 October. I’m giving you an extra week this time out of the goodness of my heart.
Future England goalkeeper Tim Flowers had a spell on-loan at Swindon Town in the mid 1980s, after regular custodian Fraser Fraser Digby (no, that’s not a typo) injured his hand playing the dastardly Crystal Palace. He was crap (particularly against Wigan, as both MC and Dean recalled), but then to the surprise of the Shrivvy Road, went on to make 11 appearances for England. Just shows to go, doesn’t it.
Well done to Elland Road Big Boys’ boss Dean, who was first out of the hat and is subsequently £75,000 richer. Commiserations to MC and Beef, who also guessed correctly.
