AND IF I STAY IT WILL BE DOUBLE
The WSFFL Fantasy FA Cup Final will be between Aardvark Abacus and San Dimas High School, with a WSFFL League and Cup “double” very much “on” for the Abacus. Ady’s team “went nap” on Rich Smith’s Kylie Bumcheeks, winners of the PCMT Final earlier this season, with Gudjonsson, Dalla Bonna, Riise and Gallas (2) all on target for the Abacus. Meanwhile, San Dimas booked their passage to the Millennium Stadium with a 2-0 win over Ady’s brother Dave, Jorge Costa and sub Ricardo Gardner sinking Mega Bucks. Congrats to both Ady and Peej, and here’s to a classic encounter at the Millennium Stadium!
ALL THE WASTERS COME ALIVE
A notable feature of this weekend’s league fixtures was the number of lowly teams hammering goal after goal past more illustrious opponents. Fred West Landscape Gardening XI, for example, knocked title challengers Claymore Athletic FC for 5, with a Beckham double notable for Fred’s team (all the more so, as Fred left Becks on the bench!). Goals from “Big Dunc” Ferguson and a sublime chip from Robert Pires enabled Nil Satis Nisi Optimum to pull off a shock 2-1 win over stuttering San Dimas, who despite securing their FA Cup Final appearance, have really slipped off the pace in the league of late. Inconsistent Boston Rock FC won the “Gooch Street Derby”, beating Prettier Than You 4-2 and possibly ending Rachel’s outside title hopes in the process (I’m in BIG trouble now!). But these performances were totally eclipsed by Elland Road Big Boys, who knocked an astonishing SEVEN past in-form Trusted By Millions, winning the Performance of the Week £100,000 and severely denting Beef’s hopes of retaining his title in the process. A Butt header and doubles from Robbie Fowler and the unlikely source of Chris Powell were the highlights for the Big Boys against Trusted, who also had keeper Jussi Jaaskaleinen sent off to complete their woes. Well done Dean.
All this leaves Aardvark Abacus with a 5 point lead at the top, as the Abacus repeated their Cup win in the league, beating Kylie Bumcheeks 5-2. They now have new pursuers in second place, in the shape of Real Muppets, for whom Laurent Robert was on target in a 1-0 win over Mega Buck Bandits.
Elsewhere, The Groove Machine beat Viola’s 3-0, and Short Straw Rovers, despite currently only fielding 10 men, drew 1-1 with bottom team York’s, York’s being cut adrift by 3 points in the process. Andrew, hurry up and give me a new team, eh?
TOO EARLY IN THE MORNING AS YOU MAY NEED A REMINDER
So here’s that reminder; this weekend’s FA Cup Quarter Final replay between Arsenal and Newcastle, which kicks off at 12 noon on Saturday (23 March), DOES count towards the weekend’s Fantasy League results, but for the 90 minutes only – extra time, penalties etc. do NOT count. Any team changes involving players from these teams MUST be with me by noon on that day, otherwise the previous week’s situation will be carried forward.
Also, this means that 2 Premiership teams aren’t in action this weekend, namely West Ham and Blackburn, who were Arsenal and Newcastle’s respective scheduled Premiership opponents this weekend. Still, that’s why you’ve all got squads, eh?

THE FF£100,000 QUESTION
An easy one, if you cast your minds back to, oooh, earlier this season…
Who were the Chelsea Six, and what did they do?
One entry per person as usual please, to me by close of play on Saturday 23 March 2002.
Tommy Docherty said “No. Mr. Chairman, I want you in front of me, where I can see what you’re doing” to Aston Villa chairman “Deadly” Doug Ellis, after receiving the dreaded “vote of confidence” from the Villa board in early 1970. Well, after his recent treatment of former Villa boss John Gregory, all I can say is plus ca change…
No guesses at all for this one! So we have a rollover - £200K up for grabs this week!
SHORTS
Excellent quote from Leicester boss Dave Bassett, following Frank Sinclair’s extraordinary own goal against Middlesbrough recently; “when Frank hit it I thought: “That's a bit hard.””. Wonder how hard Ian Walker thought it was??…More recats; Kevin Davies (Prettier Than You) is now a forward, Noel Whelan (Groove Machine) is in midfield, and Luciano Zavagno (pool) is back in defence…
