WHATEVER I TOUCH TURNS BLUE
The mighty Claymore Athletic roared to the top of the table at the weekend, after a hard-fought 1-0 win over previous leaders San Dimas High School. Clive once again revelled in the meanness of the Everton defence, with David Weir getting the decisive goal, whilst Peej was left to rue leaving Freddie Kanoute on the subs bench.
Trusted stay 3rd, after an inspired late team change, to bring in Juan Pablo Angel instead of the newly crowned European Footballer of the Year Michael Owen, paid dividends as Angel got the 2 goals which sunk Yorks 2-1. Aardvark stay 4th, despite slipping up 2-1 to in-form Real Muppets, who’ve now won 3 on the bounce and have moved level on points with Ady’s title favourites.
At the bottom, an superb Elland Road performance, inspired by 2-goal Graeme Le Saux, shattered Short Straw 4-0 and lifted the Big Boys from the basement slot, earning Dean the POTW £100,000 in the process. Well done, cobber! Nil Satis take over at the bottom, following a 4-1 hiding from Fred West. And Viola’s Pier’s recent impressive run of results came to an end at the hands of Prettier Than You; Les Ferdinand’s by-now customary goal for Viola’s wasn’t enough, as Bruno N’Gotty and a splendid Finidi George strike gave Rachel the points.
Elsewhere, Mega Buck’s Alan Stubbs notched the solitary goal in their 1-0 win over Kylie Bumcheeks. And Boston Rock beat The Groove Machine 3-2, despite an own goal from former Groover Jody Craddock, and a controversially disallowed goal from Boston Rock’s Marian Pahars, which would have lifted the “Sky Heroes” above The Big Man on goal difference. D’oh!
YOU’RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME NOW AND YOU’RE NOT SO BIG
Once again I’ve been remiss with my duties in sorting out the Manager of the Month awards. So in a quiet moment I worked them all out for this season to date, and the winners are San Dimas High School (August 2001), Aardvark Abacus (September 2001), Trusted By Millions (October 2001) and Kylie Bumcheeks (November 2001). The above teams were the only ones to have 100% records in their respective months, apart from San Dimas – Claymore and the Groovers also had 100% records in August, but San Dimas had a higher goal diff – and Kylie – they drew once during November but won all their other games, also reaching the PMCT final in their first full season.
Well done to all the above managers, whose coffers are each swelled by £250,000 as a result.
THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE, BUT YOU CAN GIVE THEM TO THE SDP
As this is the season for goodwill and generosity towards our fellow man, I thought I’d take the opportunity to remind you that there are still 5 managers who have yet to pay their £10 subs for this season. So could the managers in question make every attempt to pay up as soon as they are able, please? I don’t want to start publicly naming names, but I will if I have to!!!
HEY, WHAT’S THE MATTER, WE’VE GOT TIME, LOTS OF TIME
A disappointed Beef, unhappy at missing out on the opportunity of buying Claudio Reyna because he got his bid to me too late, has asked for clarification of when the 48 hour rule starts. So here goes; the 48 hour rule starts from the kick-off of the game in which the new player makes his debut for his club, either by being in the starting line-up, or by being named as a sub for said game, whether subsequently involved or not. So if a player makes his debut on a Saturday afternoon, you’ve got until 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon to get your single sealed bid to me.
But then you all already knew that, didn’t you?

THE FF£100,000 QUESTION
A film about his life was released in 1992 entitled “Sua Majestade o Rei” – His Majesty the King (translated from the Portuguese). Who?
One entry per person as usual please, to me by close of play on Saturday 22 December.
Owen Hargreaves was eligible to play for Wales (his mother’s nationality), England (his father’s nationality), Canada (his own birthplace) and Germany (due to his club ties and residency there).
The winner of the first £100,000 quiz cash was, once again, Peej, so another cash prize to San Dimas. Commiserations go to MC and The Big Man, who overlooked Wales. I can understand that.
SHORTS
Anyone want to have a go at pronouncing this guy’s surname? Burnley’s new Ivory Coast defender Arthur Gnohere…Bolton’s Henrik Pedersen (currently in the pool) has been recategorised as a midfielder, as have Derby’s flying wing-backs Francois Grenet (Trusted By Millions) and Luciano Zavagno (Mega Buck Bandits)… And Prettier Than You’s Steve Watson has been recategorised as a forward, prompting Rachel to immediately dump him in favour of new signing Claudio Reyna… Talking of PTY’s new boy from Noo Joisey (or New Jersey, USA for those who can’t do the accent); having been to New Jersey, I think I know one reason why he signed for Sunderland; if he ever feels homesick, he can always pop a few miles down the road to Middlesborough!!!…
